Captain :
Zahidh Chaudhary
After joining Cavaliers early in 2007, Zahid has proven to be among the top left arm quicks in the city, combining pace and swing to trouble all top-order batsmen, with a penchant for first over wickets. As well as being able to bowl at any stage of the innings, his lower order batting adds to his value, and he also has the safest pair of hands in the club, yet to drop a catch in his time at Cavaliers whilst pulling of some blinders in hte gully, as well as in the outfield.
Players
Grant Broadhurst
Veteran Fast Bowler, has been at Cavaliers since the beginning. Regularly takes the new ball, generating good pace and bounce with his classical high action, and giving the team plenty of good starts with early wickets. After years of underachievement and lack of opportunities with the bat, Grant improved his batting ouput in 2009, batting at first drop on a few occasions and scoring well. Current member of Alberta and Calgary senior representative teams.
Robert Crosse
A former first class cricketer in Pakistan, Robert is undoubtedly the best wicketkeeper in Calgary, equally at home both standing back to the quicks and up to the spinners. His ability to keep up to the medium pacers puts additional pressure on the batsmen. All class with the bat too, has played numerous vital innings in the middle order for us. Cavs are hoping he will be available full-time in 2009, as he is an important cog in the team.
Kishan Gajjar
Veteran allrounder, who has done it all in Cavaliers colours, scoring runs all through the order, taking plenty of wickets, snaring catches in the slips and captaining the team for two stretches. Moved back into the top order in 2008 and gave the team steady starts with his common sense strokeplay and eye for a single. Bowling was reliable as ever, causing batsmen trouble with his swing and guile, Kish can always be seen in the top 10 wicket takers.
Andrew Irving
Right hand opening bat, and captain since 2008. Consistently gets the team off to a steady start, and had his best season for Cavaliers in 2008. Has bowled one over in 3 seasons for Cavaliers, and is unlikely to add to that tally anytime soon. Looking for another good season with the bat in 2009, and hoping to be the first guy to lead Cavaliers to a Premier Division championship. Former Calgary U/23 representative and current Calgary U/19 coach. Andrew is on the Cavaleirs Executive as Treasurer.
Vikram Marwaha
After playing for Blackhawks in 2008, Vikram has moved to Cavaliers for the 2009 season. Aggressive middle order batsman, will be looking to score heavily in 2009 and push his way into the premier team. Is developing his part-time leggies, with a bit more work he should be able to contribute with the ball too. Represented Calgary U/19s in 2008.
Ananda Padmanabhan
Long-serving Cavalier, Anand's consistency with the willow was missed in 2008. Back again for the 2009 season, Anand will play a crucial role in the middle order, building the innings with his wide array of shots. Will be the back-up keeper, and can also bowl useful leg spin when required, once being amongst the leading wicket takers in premier division. Good in the field, often seen in close catching positions taking reflex catches.
Talal Paracha
Joining Cavaliers for the 2009 season after some successful seasons with Crown, Talal is a great addition to the team. Will bat in the middle order, where a his technique and strokeplay will ensure the scoreboard ticks along without much risk. His left arm swing bowling is good enough to warrant a place in any team on its own, and will probably see the new ball on occasion. Can field anywhere with skill, and great team player. Has represented Calgary and Alberta at all underage levels.
Talha Paracha
Joining Cavaliers for the 2009 season from Crown, Talha is an attacking right hand batsman. Has batted mostly in the top order in premier division, but can bat anywhere in the order. Great fielder in the cover point region. Has represented Calgary at underage levels. Looking forward to the increased opportunites that he will get at Cavaliers after a frustrating 2008 season.
Kapil Pupneja
The most successful captain in Cavaliers history, having guided Cavaliers 3 to the 2007 Division 2 title, and then backing it up by leading Cavaliers 2 to glory in the 2008 Division 1 championship, all by the age of 22. Made his Premier debut towards the end of the 2008 season and showed he could mix it with the big boys with some solid performances, after dominating Division 1 with 300 + runs and close to 30 wickets. Will become a permanent Premier division player in 2009, adding a left hand bat to the middle order and providing swing and accuracy with the ball.
Sachin Pupneja
Highest run-scorer in Division 1 in 2008, Sachin was instrumental in Cavaliers 2 championship season, and will be knocking on the door for Premier team selection in 2009. Aggressive batsman who usually opens, but could be valuable in the middle order too. Can bowl both leg spin and medium pace to add value to the team. Sachin is also on the Cavaliers Executive as the VP Membership.
Vaidhyanathan Ramanathan
After a successful season playing for Cavaliers 2 in the 2007 Premier Division, Vaidhya moved into Cavs 1 for 2008. Quickly became our best death bowler, with an uncanny ability to bowl yorkers when required. Picked up valuable wickets, saving the best for last with 5-25 against Blackhawks in the last game of the season, to lead us to an 8 run win. Safe hands in the outfield, although doesn't always make the catches look easy, can involve a tumble before he gets on his feet to celebrate!
Adit Sharma
Burst onto the premier division stage in 2008 with a stellar season, finishing as Cavaliers leading wicket taker and in the league's top 5. Scored the winning runs in a tense situation on debut, and proved in limited opportunities that he is more than handy with the willow. Highlight of the year was his 5/19 against defending premiers Canasia, showing he could still spin a brand new ball, whilst displaying great control for a young spinner.
Ritesh Sharma
After a few years in the lower divisions with Colts, Ritesh joined Cavaliers as a full-time player in 2008, and surprised many with his off-spinners, picking up valuable wickets and keeping the runs down, usually in tough situations towards the end of an innings. Got limited opportunities with the bat, but has scored a lot of runs in the lower divisions and should see move up the batting order in coming years.
Hassan Tariq
Best strokeplayer in the club, Hassan made the No.3 spot his own in his first season with the club in 2007, scoring 76 on debut. Study commitments limited him to 3 games in 2008, but came back in style with an unbeated 105 in his first game back. An increased availability in 2009 will be a big bonus to the club, giving the top order the consistency its has lacked in recent years, as well as a left-hander to disrupt the bowlers. Bowls handy right arm outswing, picking up regular wickets.
